Thailand’s automakers produced 140,038 vehicles in September, dropping 6.43 percent from a year ago, according to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

Auto sales at the domestic market declined 19.1 percent year on year in September to 56,871 units. However, auto sales on the export market increased 15.47 percent to 73,831 units due to the easing of coronavirus lockdown and economic recovery in the global market, according to the FTI.

On a monthly basis, however, auto production boosted 34.47 percent from August, supported by increasing demands in international markets as many countries have started to ease their lockdown restrictions.

In the first nine months of 2021, the country’s auto production amounted 1.21 million units, a boost of 25.93 percent from the same period of 2020.

Thailand during the January-September period exported 699,682 finished vehicles, an increase of 37.38 percent year on year and equivalent to 57.73 percent of overall production, according to the FTI.
