Two East Carolina University students were killed in a crash in South Carolina on Friday afternoon, the university stated Saturday. Two other ECU students were injured in the incident.
The S.C. Highway Patrol stated a 2016 Honda coupe was riding south and a 1999 Acura sedan was riding north when the two crashed with each other. Two individuals in the Honda and the driver of the Acura died.
The Orangeburg County Coroner’s office identified the three individuals as Shea Crothers, 22, of Charlotte, James Stanley, 18, of Sneads Ferry, and Walter Lee Prezzy Jr., 51, of Holly Hill, South Carolina.
Authorities state Crothers and Stanley were passengers in the car where two fellow ECU students were seriously harmed. Prezzy was the driver of the second car.
The four students were members of the university’s fraternity and sorority community, the school stated.
“There are no words to express the amount of sadness we are feeling right now,” Chancellor Cecil Staton stated. “This is really devastating news, and we ask that all Pirates come together and join me in holding these students and their families deeply in our hearts and prayers during this unspeakable time.”
