Three teenagers died and two others were injured on Memorial Day after a driver lost control of their car and struck into a pickup near Milo McIver State Park outside Estacada in Oregon.
The Estacada School District confirmed the vehicle crash involved some of its students.
Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies were notified of the incident just after 9 p.m. on Monday.
According to the sheriff’s office, an 18-year-old was driving the vehicle with four passengers – some as young as 14 years old – in a black sedan near Milo McIver State Park.
Preliminary reports show the driver went into an uncontrolled spin, crossed over the center line, and crashed with a Ford F-350 pickup heading in the opposite direction.
Two passengers in the car were declared dead at the scene. Another passenger was flown to a hospital in a LifeFlight helicopter, however, they later succumbed to their injuries.
The driver was admitted to the hospital with a punctured lung, and a 17-year-old passenger was also admitted to the hospital with crash-related injuries.
The pickup’s driver, a 27-year-old man, was not injured and is cooperating with officials.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said they will release the identities of the victims pending notification to their families.
