The Australian division owned by the Japanese automaker, Toyota, has proudly announced that it is going to organize a new racing competition dubbed the Toyota 86 Pro-Am racing competition. It is said that this racing competition in particular will be making its debut when the year 2016 kicks off. So, there is still some time to get ready for the upcoming racing series.
Speaking of the Toyota 86 Pro-Am racing series, there are going to be no less than five professional drivers involved. As Toyota points out, these professional drivers will be in charge of mentoring as well as competing against a host of amateur drivers. These amateur drivers, however, will first have to show that they are qualified for being on the starting grid at the competition. According to the Japanese automaker, the racers involved in this event will exclusively be engaged to certain V8 supercar events and they will each use a modified Toyota 86.
Although Toyota is still hiding some information regarding the race so far, it is believed that the racecar will pack a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. This engine will also be accompanied by a programmable ECU, remote oil cooler and sports exhaust pipes. All of these components are expected to give the modified Toyota 86 increased performance when compared to its regular version counterpart. Other components that will reportedly be available on the racecar as well include a roll cage, a set of high performance disc brakes and also adjustable suspension.
Tony Cramb, the sales and marketing executive director of the Toyota Australia, points out that the Toyota 86 is already fun to drive and also dynamic in nature. In fact, there are not few owners of the vehicle that have often taken part in lap dashes, tarmac rallies and similar events. As such, it is only appropriate for the Toyota Australia to hold such an event as the 86 Pro-Am – which most likely stands for professional-amateur – racing championship.
