Toyota to halt more Japan production in June and July

Toyota Motor said on Thursday it prepares an extra domestic factory line production suspension in June and July because of semiconductor shortages and a COVID-19 outbreak at one of its providers.

The announcement comes as the third time that the automaker adjusted its June production plans, which declined about 12% from its original plan.

It now said it would produce 750,000 vehicles globally for the month. It did not reveal how many vehicles it aims to produce for July. It also hasn’t modified its global production target of about 9.7 million vehicles for 2022.

The automaker earlier said that parts shortages caused by COVID-19 lockdowns in China and a shortage of semiconductors as the factors behind its production changes.

This time, it mentioned staffing disruptions at a provided because of an outbreak of COVID-19 and a production equipment problem at another supplier.
