Two killed after car crashes in Leesburg, Florida

Two men were killed after their car struck a retention pond in Leesburg, Florida on Wednesday morning.

The crash took place around 4:04 a.m. close to the intersection of U.S. 27 and U.S. 441 when a 2018 Hyundai was traveling north on U.S. 27 and the vehicle’s driver, a 22-year-old identified as Tristan Pope, of Idaho, lost control, left the road and entered the retention pond.

Pope and a 28-year-old passenger identified as Cody Giovanetti, also from Idaho, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
