Two killed after two-car crash in Wallkill, Orange County

Two people died following a two-car crash on Wednesday on Route 17 in the town of Wallkill, Orange County.

The crash took place in the eastbound lanes of Route 17 at the Sands Road Overpass near exit 119.

A 2004 Toyota Sienna driven by Nelson Vivarcampoverde, 48, of Middletown, was traveling in the passing lane of Route 17 next to a 2005 Ford Escape, driven by Anthony K. Jones, 24, of Walden, which was in the right lane.

According to officials, the cars crashed, causing the Ford to leave the roadway, strike an earth embankment and overturn.

The Toyota entered the center median, hit the guide rail and turned over before coming to rest on the westbound median.

Vivarcampoverde and one of his passengers, identified as Maria Abrigo, 36, of Middletown, were taken out from the car.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers in the Toyota were flown to Westchester Medical Center for treatment.

The rest of the four passengers were admitted to Garnet Health Medical Center with serious injuries.

It is yet to be known that what caused the crash.
