Two killed, three injured in Ahoskie, North Carolina

Two people died and three were injured in Ahoskie, North Carolina on Friday night.

The two-vehicle crash took place two miles north of Ahoskie on US 13.

Victims identified as Stacey Newsome, 29, of Woodland and 28-year-old Antia Edwards of Ahoskie were killed in the crash.

Trooper M. Cherry, Newsome was operating a 2010 Honda passenger car that was traveling east on old NC 11 at around 10:45 p.m. Edwards together with 28-year-old Shanequa Jenkins of Ahoskie were occupants in Newsome’s vehicle.

Meanwhile, an ambulance, owned by Hertford County and driven by 18-year-old Kayley Minton of Como, was southbound on US 13. Another EMT, Alexandria Stephenson, 23, of Murfreesboro, was onboard.

An ambulance was responding to a call when the accident took place.

Newsome was making a left-hand turn from Old NC 11 onto US 13 north and was hit by the ambulance. The ambulance then overturned in a ditch, but the driver and the passenger could exit the vehicle. Both were treated in the hospital and were released.

Edwards later died from her injuries at Vidant RCH.

Newsome later died at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, the same hospital where Jenkins is currently admitted.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by North Carolina Highway Patrol.
