Vauxhall to Produce Yet Another Calibra?

For fans of the Opel brand, they should notice that the automaker has only recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Calibra model. Although the model may seem to have been lost in the dark with no one likely to even remember it, it seems that the automaker still has a passion for the model. It is, after all, one of the most iconic coupes that Opel has ever made.

The news about the next generation Opel Calibra was revealed when Tim Tozer, the Managing Director of Vauxhall, attended an interview session with the Auto Express. According to Tozer, the automaker could actually possibly come up with a new version of the Calibra. As Tozer puts it, the company needs to walk before it can run and that should have happened when the automaker comes up with the Insignia.

In addition to the exciting reveal about the probable Calibra in the future, Tozer has also managed to spill the beans on the next generation Astra. He claims that the upcoming Astra will have a much lighter weight than that of its predecessor. According to Tozer, the new version of the model will shed around 200 kg of the weight of its predecessor. Well, considering the car is so light, is there any possibility that there will be an electric version of it? After all, electric vehicles are getting more and more spotlights these days.

Unfortunately, as it turns out, fans of electric vehicles (EVs) will not be too happy with the news that comes from the mouth of Tim Tozer. This executive of Opel has strictly confirmed that the Opel Astra is not a model which the automaker optimizes to be an electric vehicle. It does not have what it takes to pack a battery-electric mixed power train. Well, perhaps Tozer has a point in there.
