Multiple vehicles were damaged in an arson attack at a car dealership in the East Side neighborhood in Chicago on early Tuesday morning.

According to Chicago police, the offender used an incendiary device for damaging six to eight vehicles in the parking lot. The incident occurred in the 9900 block of South Avenue L just after 3 a.m.

An arson attack is being investigated and no one is in custody.

During this year, the arson attacks in the US have taken place mainly in relation to the riots and protests related to civil unrest caused after the death of George Floyd after he was pinned down by police officer Derek Chauvin. Floyd had been arrested for allegedly using counterfeit money at a store to purchase cigarettes.

In 2019, about 7,068 motor vehicles were set on fire in the United States.
