2 dead after police chase and crash in East Chicago

Two people were killed following a police chase that ended in a car crash in East Chicago.

According to police, officials tried to stop a Toyota Corolla near 138th Street and Euclid Avenue around 3 a.m. Saturday. The driver of the car won’t stop, after which a police chase ensued.

During the chase, the driver of the Toyota lost control and hit a cement planter near Columbus Drive and Butternut Street.

The passenger of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver succumbed to injuries in St. Catherine Hospital.

The identifies of the victims are yet to be released.
