Volkswagen has officially introduced the Golf Sportsvan at the ongoing edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Described as a near-production concept, the model previews the Golf Plus successor that is expected to go on sale during the middle of next year 2014. While the model closely resembles the standard Golf, the concept can be distinguished with a longer wheelbase and a taller roofline. The interiors has also received some changes that include a sliding rear seat, additional storage compartments and the ability to hold more than 1,500 liters (52.9 cubic feet) of luggage.
The company did not reveal detailed specifications but did confirm that the entry-level Sportsvan will come well equipped with features such as air conditioning, an electronic parking brake, a 5-inch touchscreen display and a variable cargo floor and cargo cover. The model will also have other goodies such as seven airbags, an Automatic Post-Collision Braking System and an XDS+ electronic differential.
Talking about the engine options, six different engines will be available. The petrol engines will have outputs of 85 HP (63 kW), 110 HP (81 kW), 125 HP (92 kW) and 150 HP (110 kW) while the diesel ones will generate 110 HP (81 kW) and 150 HP (110 kW).
