2000 Ferrari 550 Barchetta GTZ from Zagato

by Alex Patrick

Yoshiyuki Hayashi, a Japanese who is famous for his collections requested that his Ferrari 575M be made up in a special body so that it styled in resemblance with the 250GTZ Berlinetta of the 1956 era. And hence was born the idea of developing a new and unique Ferraro 550 GTZ. The idea was conveyed by Zagato to Ferrari and they decided that this one be taken up as the one to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary. We therefore have the Ferrari575 based car that looks much like the 250GTZ. The car came out first as a coupe model and then on the insistence of Zagato a roadster version was also built.

The 550 Barchetta was used as the base inspiration for this project as the Barchetta has the same 5.5 liter V12 engine and develops 485 HP at 7000 rpm. The inlet and exhaust system designs have been scripted from Ferrari’s own Formula 1 engines. The final outcome of the project has been a Ferrari power car with the side or looks of a Zagato.

The Barchetta Zagato ’N9’ is a right hand drive car which has a dark gray exterior finish with the interior done up in cream leather. The car has run just 900 miles and was auctioned off at price of £353,500 which works out to approximately $550,000 given the current exchange rates of the bank.
