2012 BMW 1-Series caught testing with less camouflage

There have been many instances of the second generation Series 1 BMW prototypes that have been noticed while they were out for testing. Scoop pictures that have been received depict a five door hatchback version and seem to be the final prototype given the production headlamps and tail lights that can be seen on these units.

BMW have been known to stick to a particular design for at least two generation of production before a complete changeover of the styling is affected by them. The Series 1 would therefore hold on to the design of the current model of the car.

The engine would be a hybrid power train which is a new introduction by BMW and also there would be the turbocharged gasoline units – another new generation BMW introduction.

There is speculation that the new 1-Series would have the option of either the three or four cylinder engines with Twin Power turbo Technology. This technology is a combination of twin-scroll turbo charging, direct gasoline injection and a fully variable Valvetronic valve management system.

This new technology has been fitted on the X1 Crossover with its 2.0 liter four cylinder N20 power plant. The output that this unit delivers is 245 hp at 5,000 rpm and peak torque is 359 Nm or 258 lb ft at 1,250 rpm.

The three and five door hatchback version of the new 1-series is expected to be launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show to be held this September and in 2012 or early 2013 we could see the Coupe and Convertible models
