The 2012 BMW 6-Series Coupe Rendered

Early next year is the earliest that the new 2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe and convertible can come to the showrooms. This is so due to the fact that the current model has been given a mid-cycle face lift less than two years ago.

Spy photographers have captures shots of the prototypes of these cars as their prototype versions have been doing the test runs in Europe. The test runs have been carried out either at the Nurburgring circuit or at the site near BMW headquarters in Munich. There is also available a computer rendered close copy of the BMW Gran coupe Concept available.

There are marked differences between this version and the previous version of the Convertible which are evident in the Spy shots. The shape of the rear side windows differ between the two cars. There is also marked difference in the roof profile between the two cars. The rear window is wider in case of the Coupe when compared to the rear window on the Convertible.

It is quite evident from these factors that there are two versions of the 6 Series models that BMW is preparing. This was not what BMW had done during production of its Z4 Roadster. That one has single version that comes with a folding hard top roof. There is reason to believe that this time there would be a 6 series convertible with a conventional roof top as well as a 6 series Coupe from BMW.

BMW has experienced a running success with the 6 Series with sales figures touching 20,000 units per year. Not willing to take a risk with its future plans BMW would be toning down the design and styling of its next generation cars. We get a much sleeker look as well wider in appearance with the new design as seen from the spy shots.

There is a lot of stuff for the interiors of the 6 Series. An eight speed automatic gear box with paddle shifters accompanies the plethora of luxurious settings that have been given to the interiors. For the high performance M6 there would be a twin turbocharged V8 to get improved performance. The current X5 M and X6 M have the twin turbo charged 4.4 liter engine which is the same that would be carried over with some variation. The output would be 570 hp as per expectations for the M6 which can be seen doing its test rounds here.
