American Sports Car manufacturer has recently released Detroit Electric SP:01 electric sports car. The car is based on Lotus Elise model.

Detroit Electric SP:01 comes with custom carbon fiber bodywork from Detroit Electric but the front and rear suspension system and front anti-roll bar have both been maintained from the standard Lotus Elise. Also the car features the same mid-engined layout as the Lotus Elise except for that the engine bay also supports a large battery back.

The car is powered by two 37-kWh lithium-polymer batteries and an AC electric motor which combined has the output generation capacity of 201 hp and 166 lb.-ft of torque. The company claims that Detroit Electric SP:01 is the quickest electric car with the ability to touch 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds and with a top speed of 155 mph.

The car is going to enter the production phase very soon and will come with a base price of $135,000.
