BMW suspends production in Shenyang, China as Covid-19 spreads

BMW Group said on Wednesday production at all its plants located in the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang will be temporarily suspended from Thursday because of the spread of COVID-19.

The automaker said it had yet to determine a date to restart production.

BMW and its joint venture partner Brilliance China Automotive have a production base in Shenyang which includes two vehicle plants.

About 139,285 people in China, have been confirmed as being infected with the coronavirus. The virus has killed 4,638 people in the country. Although these figures are heavily disputed and experts say the government has deliberately under-reported the figures.
