Detroit Electric SP:01 production delayed once again

Detroit Electric has once again postponed the production of its SP:01 because the American automaker was not able to finalise on an agreement for a manufacturing facility in Wayne County.

In an e-mail sent to The Detroit News, Detroit Electric’s North American President Don Graunstadt said that the firm had not finalized yet a lease or purchase agreement at the facility in Plymouth, Wayne County. As per the initial plans, the company was to start the manufacturing of SP:01 car in this month and had estimated to reach an annual production of around 2,500 cars built by at least 100 employees.

Just to recap, the SP:01 rides on a Lotus Exige platform and comes fitted with a mid-mounted electric motor outputting 201 hp (150 kW) and 225 Nm (166 lb-ft) of torque. On a single charge it can easily cover the distance of up to 190 miles (306 km) which is due to its 37 kWh battery which can be fully recharged in a span of just 4.3 hours.

Detroit Electric claims that the car will be able to accelerate 0-62 mph (0-100 kmph) in just 3.7 seconds before and will come with a top speed of 155 mph (250 kmph).

Hoping that the production will commence soon, the SP:01 will come with a base price of 135,000 USD.
