The Dodge Viper (fourth generation) will cease to be in production from this year itself but before it melts into oblivion, the Viper has ensured it remains etched in automotive history for a long time. A lap record at the Miller Motorsports Park was set when a Dodge Viper SRT10 American Club Racer (ACR) completed the track in less than 2 minute, something that has never been achieved before. The driver at the wheels was Kuno Wittmer and he finished the course in 1:59.995. This was a first time occurrence on the 3.048 mile Outer Course configuration track. With this he bettered the previous record of 2:03.86 held by Jan Magnussen when he drove a Corvett ZR1.
Wilmer had this to say about the Dodge Viper: “The Viper ACR is such a blast to drive at the limit, and I can honestly say that I didn’t leave an inch out there on the track and was barely braking in the corners.” This is not the only record that the Dodge Viper ACR holds to its credit. It also holds the record at Laguna Seca circuit where in 2009 it had set the time at 1:33.92 while at the Nordscheife in 2008, the Viper had set the record lap time of 7:22.1.
The car is fitted with a Vq10 engine of 8.4 liter cubic capacity. The engine develops 600 hp and 560 lb ft or 760 Nm of torque. With this set up the car can do the 0 to 60 mph or 96 kmph sprint in less than 4 seconds. The car takes about 11 seconds for covering a quarter mile while for the 0 to 100 mph or 161 kmph rush and coming to a standstill thereafter it takes the car 11 seconds.
The car is also fitted with a KW four-wheel independent suspension along with two-way adjustable competition coil-over shock absorbers which helps in improving the handling characteristics of the car. For aerodynamic features the car has a carbon fiber splitter in the front and carbon fiber wing that makes up the rear. This makes for a downforce of 1,000 lbs or 453.6 kg when the car is running at 150 mph or 241 kmph.
The package also includes lightweight wheels, StopTech brake rotors and Michelin PS Cup tyres as also the 2010 year model of Dodge Viper ACR has been given some upgrades that has resulted in increased speed to 184 mph or 296 kmph.
“It’s amazing to come to this world-class track and shatter the production car lap record by almost 4 seconds,” said Bryan Viger, Head of Dodge Motorsports. “We brought our street-legal Viper ACR to see what Kuno could do behind the wheel, and on his second lap he’d already gone faster than the single lap record.”
