FAW-Volkswagen sees strong car sales in first quarter

FAW-Volkswagen Automobile, a passenger car joint venture between China FAW Group and Volkswagen AG, reported strong auto sales in the first quarter of this year.

Its vehicle sales increased 72 percent year on year to 580,529 units in the first three months.

Of the overall sales, the Volkswagen brand sold 337,000 units, and the sales under the Audi and Jetta brands were at 207,196 units and 36,333 units, respectively, the German automaker said.

Founded in 1991, FAW-Volkswagen has developed into one of the best-selling passenger auto manufacturers in China. The automaker currently has five production bases across the country.
