Ferrari P540 Superfast Aperta, one-off supercar created for Edward Walson

The P540 Superfast Aperta is commissioned and partly developed by Edward Walson, son of John Walson, the inventor of cable TV.

In 2008 Mr. Walson approached Ferrari to produce a modern reinterpretation of the gold-coloured car in the 1968 short film Toby Dammit.

“I had always dreamed of designing sports cars,” Walson explains, “and when I saw this film the decision came of its own accord: one day I would have ‘my’ Ferrari.”

This one-off Ferrari is the second in a new Special Projects programme created by Ferrari to meet requests from the most discerning clients and collectors. It is based on the 599 GTB Fiorano, as the car has no roof(targa roof), lot of effort went to strengthening the chassis. Thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber it weighs just 20 kg more than the standard 599 GTB Fiorano.

The whole project took 14 months from initial sketches to the road-legal car. The car was designed by Pininfarina and built in Maranello, Mr. Walson was directly involved in each stage of its development.

6.0-liter V12 engine produces 620 horsepower at 7600 rpm, with power sent to rear axle via F1 6-speed gearbox.

“This is the most special Christmas present of my life.” said Mr. Walson when he took the delivery of this one-off Ferrari at Fiorano.
