GeigerCars boosts power of Grand Sport from Corvette near ZR1 performance

by Ron Grant

Car lovers in Europe may find it a bit frustrating when they find out that there is a short supply of the Corvette ZR1. Luckily, German tuning company Geiger cars gets its hands dirty to give you something that is almost a ZR1 as they boosted the power of the Grand Sport by Corvette to performance and power on the territory of the ZR1.

GeigerCars further enhances the figures of the 2010 release of the Grand Sport which is a new edition in tribute of the rich racing history of the brand especially during the 1970s.

It’s not that the Grand Sport is not enough when it rolls out of the Corvette factory but why will you settle for the stock when there is a tuning company like Geigercars which can jack up the power of the American iron.

The Grand Sport has an LS3 V8 under its hood. It already has an impressive output of about 430 horsepower and a torque of 575 Nm. The engineers of the Munich based tuning company decided to place a 2.3L supercharger atop the 8-cylinder 6.2L powerplant of the Grand Sport. Given that setup the Corvette can now give out 588 horsepower revving at 6,490 rpm and a torque of 738 Nm while at 4,030 rpm.

The tuned Corvette zooms from 0 to 100 kilometer per hour in less than 4 seconds. Top speed is pegged at 337 km/h.

The Grand Sport by Geigercars is impressive when you look at its form and all the technical aspects about it. It has wider fenders for the front and tail portion with extra air vents so it can be fitted with bigger brakes. It gets the Z06 configuration of 355 mm 6-cylinder discs up front and a 4-cylinder 340 mm disc for the rear. Other Z06 elements added are the bigger rear spoiler and the diffuser in front.

The engineers also overhauled the transmission, the springs, shock absorbers, and sway bars. They also installed a differential cooler and an oil system that is dry sump. The tuning pros also transferred the battery of the Grand Sport to the rear. Eighteen inch and 19 inch alloy rims hugged by 275/35 and 325/30 tires hug these wheels.

What the tuning company did to the Corvette Grand Sport is underlined by the emblems and special graphics on the front fenders, boot lid, and bonnet. A good automotive athlete turned to a special elite worthy of all praises.
