General Motors Paving Way To Sell Cars Online

General Motors Co. (GM) has come up with an innovative way to sell cars to their potential customers who want to bypass showrooms. The company has expanded the option with a new online shopping tool.

The new software that is to be implemented by GM this year-end will keep its 4,300 dealers in loop to avoid running afoul of state franchise laws.

The new tool is a Web-based application and is termed as Shop-Click-Drive. It will cover the entire dealer networks to give them exclusive rights of selling the most new cars.

The Shop-Click-Drive app will allow buyers to lock the price of a new car via a computer device, get an estimation of their trade-in value of old car, arrange for a test drive, agree to a date of the delivery and also apply for the finance of the new car.

The new app of the auto giant will work as an electronic door to the independent dealers and also make buying comfortable for those customers who are less willing to visit showrooms.

GM said the new program of selling cars online is not meant to replace the existing dealers, but to give them a new and better way to reach the customers.
