by Alex

Brabus would be displaying their tuning kit for the second generation Mercedes Benz CLS model at the Geneva Motor Show scheduled to be held next week. There are aero-enhancements, interior goods and performance upgrades that the German tuning house has prepared for the new 2012 CLS from Mercedes.

A new front bumper is the first add-on from the tuning firm that appeals to the eye as it adds to the Aesthetic looks of the Mercedes-Benz. They have also included LED daytime running lights with the option of going either for a dark or chrome surrounds. There are also the fender gills; side skirts, a discreet boot lid spoiler and rear apron that are included in the tuning kit. The exhaust system that is existent on the 2012 CLS is a sport model one and this has four tail pipes. The tuning kit from Brabus gives custom cut outs for these tail pipes.

Brabus offers six different choices so far as alloy wheels go. The range of wheel size starts from 8.5J x 17 inch to the 10.5J x 20 inch. Pirelli and Yokohama, the partnering companies for the wheels can also provide wheels of size 255/30 ZR 20 in front and in size 305/25 ZR 20 for the rear axle.

For interior there is the new sports steering wheel coming in a variety of leather and wood designs. There is also the option of going for custom leather or Alcantara upholstery as well as aluminum and carbon fiber trim components.

Brabus for now have the engine tuning kits only for the diesel units.

Tweaked with this kit the engine on the CLS, a 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY 2.1 liter turbo diesel unit gets an extra 31 hp which gives it a total rating of 235 hp and 560 NM or 413 lb-ft of peak torque.

The kit offers the driver to select from an “Eco” setting where only the peak torque goes up to 690 NM that is 509 lb-ft from 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) while the maximum output remains same. There is the other “Sport” selection where both torque and power jump up and so does the total power from 265 hp to 313 hp. All this enhancement in the engine’s capabilities has only made the CLS all the more sporty, capable as it is of reaching the 62 mph or 100 kmph mark in 5.9 seconds along with an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph or 155 mph.

The CLS variant also has a kit add-on that could optimize power yield as well as emit a throaty exhaust note.

There are new sport rings also that can be included in the kit which lowers the height by 30 mm or 1.2 inch which in turn helps in raising the ease of handling of this car.
