Mercedes has unveiled the CLA 45 AMG Racing Series concept at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.
Designed to preview the company’s entry-level customer racing car, the CLA 45 AMG RS comes with a new front bumper with larger air intakes and a carbon fiber splitter. Moving further back, there are features such as extended wheel arches, revised side skirts and an aggressive rear bumper with a carbon fiber diffuser. Other notable highlights include an adjustable rear wing and lightweight alloy wheels with Dunlop racing slicks.
The engineers have installed a race-oriented suspension that has a wider track and adjustable springs and dampers. The model has also been equipped with high-performance brakes and a race-spec interior with a roll cage, a fire extinguishing system and a carbon fiber Recaro racing seat.
The company did not reveal much about the technical specifications but confirmed that the concept uses the familiar supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that is also found in the standard model. As the regulations vary by race and series, the production model will also come with a variable engine output. The company has also floated the likelihood of offering the car with front-wheel drive instead of the all-wheel drive.
