Mexico’s government stated on Friday it declines any effort to use threats to impact financial investment in the nation, one day after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump stated Japanese carmaker Toyota would need to pay a substantial tax to produce vehicles in Mexico for U.S. customers.
“The Economy Ministry categorically rejects any effort to influence investment choices by companies based on fear or threats,” the ministry stated in a quick declaration.
The statement included no reference of Toyota or Donald Trump.
