China’s pickup truck market has continued to show development in February with sales increasing year on year, industry data noted.
A total of 32,000 units were sold last month, increasing 507% from the low base of the same period last year because of the COVID-19 crisis, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
The figure surpassed that of February 2019 when 28,000 units were sold, CPCA said.
Pickup trucks, which combine the functions of passenger and commercial vehicles, have become more popular in the country the recent times in China.
The association expects more recovery of the pickup truck market, mentioning the boost in passenger car demand driven by the steady recovery of China’s economy and the new business models.
China has made attempts to facilitate the entry of pickup trucks into cities in recent times. Earlier this month, the country’s commerce ministry released a guideline calling on regional officials to promptly relax restrictions on the entry of pickup trucks into cities to further increase automobile consumption.
