Porsche considering Diesel-powered Cayenne for the U.S. market

Porsche announced they are considering a diesel model for the North American market. This comes as a complete U turn as the German maker of super cars wasn’t too interested to have a diesel version in their line up. This was revealed by Laurance Yap, Porsche Canada manager of public relations, which makes most product decisions for North America.

Yap stated that consumers in Canadian are thrilled that the US arm of Porsche’s operations are reconsidering the diesel option for the market there. With Mercedes, BMW and Audi offering diesel SUVs, interest in diesel engined SUVs has risen in the US market. Right now a diesel option from Porsche is available for the European market. Customers in Canada though have indicated interest for the diesel version SUV there. Statistics show that about 70 to 80 percent SUV customers are asking for diesel engined cars. Even Volkswagen has confirmed this shift of their customer base towards diesel engine models with about 90 percent of the Touareg’s prospective customers asking for a diesel version of the SUV.
