Renault India on Monday announced that they are temporarily suspending production at its alliance manufacturing facility in Chennai because of the spread of coronavirus.
The French automaker did not mention the time period of suspension.
“The health, safety and well-being of all Renault workers, dealers and other partners, their families and community at large is of utmost priority. In view of the spreading COVID-19 situation and to help avoid spread of the virus, production has been temporarily suspended at our Alliance Plant. We will await further notifications from the state government to resume operations,” said Venkatram Mamillapalle, CEO and Managing Director of Renault India Operations
“All workers in our Corporate and Regional offices including Chennai, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Kolkata and Pune will keep working from home,” added Mamillapalle.
The automaker has implemented multiple preventive measures throughout all its offices, dealerships and manufacturing facility and has also taken steps to raise awareness at an individual level over the last few weeks.
Renault India has shared regular advisories with the dealer network and told them to adhere to the notices and guidelines issued by the respective local officials, state and central governments and regulatory bodies, the company said in a release.
Renault India will keep continuing its 24×7 roadside assistance to guarantee support for its customers in case of any emergency, the company said.
A number of leading automakers in India have also announced the temporary closure of their plants because of coronavirus crisis for varying periods of time.
About 467 people in India have been confirmed as being infected with the coronavirus. The virus has killed 9 people in the country.
