Porsche is planning to build a new supercar, not only to match Ferrari’s 458 Italia or its 458 Spider variant, but to surpass them. Having this more than exciting information, we all have to wait now, for about four years, for this to actually happen.
According to Car Magazine, the new car is called called the 960, and it’s set to slot in below the upcoming hyper-hybrid 918 and above the stable staple 911. Even though they are considerably different, all three of the cars are likely to end up riding on a variation of the same core architecture.
Unlike the 911, the 960 will be mid-engined and will have a twin-turbo flat six, much like the heartier versions of the 911, with power to match at something like 600 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque.
IT is probably that the new 960 will be rear-wheel-drive only, even though its latform-sharing allows the option of all-wheel-drive, and it is expected to be in a roadster form. As far as looks are concerned, the car is rumoured to have lots of carbon fiber, styling catching a middle ground between the 911 and the 918, and ultimate performance in that neighborhood as well, meaning sub-three-second 0-60 mph times and more than 200 mph top speed are both likely.
Pricing for this new supercar is expected somewhere over $200,000. Yes, a bit expensive, but we shall be waiting to see if it is worth the money.
