If ever Chrysler gives its thumbs up to the production of the Grand Cherokee SRT8 by Jeep, consumers can expect the SUV to have an excellent output of as much as 525 horsepower or about 391 kW/532 PS. This puts the vehicle side by side with the BMW X5 M which gives out 555 horsepower or 414 kW/563 PS.
Most likely the Jeep will be fitted with a Hemi 6.4L powerplant sans turbocharger or supercharger. A lightweight body might be necessary and its only chance to outpace the X5 M on a 0 to 60 mph dash. The curb weight of the German SUV is about 2,305 kilograms or 5,082 pounds.
The current model of the SRT8 depends on a 6.1L naturally aspirated Hemi that makes 420 horsepower. This SUV was introduced a year after the 3rd gen Grand Cherokee was unveiled for the first time. Some of the notable features are the performance shocks, Brembo brakes, and the upgraded exhaust.
Looking at the trend, it might be this year or next year that we will see the new Grand Cherokee SRT8 in dealerships.
