Five workers of India’s central government Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) died and at least six others injured after the mini-truck they were traveling in crashed into a roadside tree in South Tripura’s Nutanbazar area on Friday evening.

The political party workers were returning from an election rally.

The four of the deceased have been identified as Grahin Kumar Jamatia (65), Urbashi Kanya Jamatia (45), Mamata Rani Jamatia, (26) and Rachana Devi Jamatia (30).

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb shared his condolences on social media, writing “I assure that the party will be with every family during the sad moment.”

Poll to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council are set to be hosted on April 6.
