Two die, three injured after car crash in Fairfield County, Ohio

Two people died and three others were injured following two vehicles crash in Fairfield County, Ohio on Wednesday evening.

The two persons who died were identified as Patrick L. Anderson, 49, of Amanda, and Barbara J. Triplett, 78, of Johnstown.

The crash took place around 7:20 p.m. on U.S. Route 22 in Hocking Township southwest of Lancaster, according to the Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Anderson was driving a grey 2002 Toyota Avalon westbound on Rt. 22 when his car was crashed head-on by an eastbound vehicle driven by Michael L. Triplett, 47, of Johnstown. Troopers said Triplett had driven left of the double yellow line.

Anderson was declared dead at the scene by Berne Township medics. Anderson was not using his seatbelt.

Barbara Triplett was the right front-seat passenger in the vehicle driven by Michael Triplett. She was taken to Fairfield Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Michael Triplett sustained small injuries and was also taken to Fairfield Medical Center. Two other passengers in the vehicle were also injured: Cortney S. Triplett, 48, of Johnstown, and a 16-year-old whose identity was not revealed. Both were taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital with serious injuries.

All occupants in Triplett’s vehicle were wearing their safety belts.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
