There are rumors and reports that we might be able to see a production-like release of the SLS AMG eDrive from Mercredes Benz before the end of 2010.
This Mercedes-Benz supercar was unveiled mid last year and will be available by 2013. This was confirmed by the managing director of AMG recently.
The electric sports car SLS eDrive will depend on 4 electric motors to roll on the road with an excellent output of 525 horsepower at max and a peak torque of about 880Nm.
The range of the vehicle is expected to be around 180 kilometers or roughly 112 miles. The electric motors which are located near the wheels make things favorable by decreasing unsprung masses as compared to the configuration of wheel-hub motors.
The test unit of the SLS AMG makes use of liquid cooled lithium ion battery pack that can store as much as 48kWh with a capacity of 40Ah. The 400-volt batt pack will can be charged using the energy regenerating brake system.
AMG experts also explained that the SLS was picked because it can easily be molded as an EV. The concept car from Benz is perfect for the electric drive setup with no necessary changes as the transaxle and combustion engine can be removed without any glitches to encounter.
The engineers of AMG can do a T configuration for the motors. Two will go with the rear gearbox while the other goes upfront with the space in the middle for the battery.
