Two people were dead and four were injured after a car crash on Highway 101 in California.
The crash took place around 8 p.m. on the northbound side of Highway 101 when a 47-year-old, identified as Berenice Cortez Pineda, was driving with four other passengers and she pulled into the shoulder of the highway near the Santa Barbara Road off-ramp.
A 21-year-old identified as Felipe Gonzalez was driving over the 65-mph speed limit and lost control of his Suburban, as he swerved into the shoulder and hit the rear of Pineda’s car.
Two passengers in Pineda’s car identified as Celene Reducindo, 47, and Maria Hernandez, 54 were pronounced dead at the scene.
Pineda and two other passengers, 3-year-old Mia Peralta and 48-year-old Ricardo Gonzalez had major injuries.
Felipe Gonzalez, the other driver, was arrested following the collision.
The highway was closed due to the crash but was reopened at about midnight.
California Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
