Audi has agreed to eliminate required redundancies in Germany by 5 years till the end of 2025 and to construct two fully-electric SUV models at its primary plant in Ingolstadt, it stated in a joint statement with its German works council.
The Volkswagen-owned company in 2016 awarded production of its first mass-produced electric sport-utility vehicle to a plant in Brussels, and has since been under pressure from labor unions to designate electric vehicle projects to Germany.
“Production of the two new totally electric SUVs is another turning point for our secure future,” stated Peter Mosch, the works council chief.
