McLaren have revealed that their 2017 car will be named the MCL32, breaking with the ‘MP4’ nomenclature that had been in place from 1981.
The move follows previous chairman Ron Dennis’s departure from the group, the individual having brought the MP4 designation to McLaren when his Project Four Formula 2 team combined with the F1 squad in the early Eighties.
“2017 is all about change, and our car name is changing too. Ladies and gents, get set for the McLaren-Honda MCL32. #MCL32 #ChangeYourName.”

McLaren verified that the Honda-powered MCL32 will be revealed on February 24 – the same day that Ferrari will take the wraps off their as-yet-unnamed 2017 challenger.
