A new variant of the 2011 Dodge Charger which would carry the TBi moniker on itself is being launched by the Chrysler Group. The TBi stands for Turbocharged Boosted Induction and the engine that can be found under the hoods of this car would be a four cylinder turbocharged gasoline unit which has been sourced from the sister concern – Alfa Romeo. This 1.75 liter engine is also found fitted on the Alfa Models that includes Giulietta and 159, as well as the upcoming 4C sports coupe which had been previewed in Geneva last month.
The 2011 Dodge Charger thus fitted with the Alpha Romeo engine delivers 225 hp of peak power and 250 lb-ft or 340 Nm of peak torque most of which is available from as low as just 1,900 rpm.
The fuel consumption of the engine is much similar to that of a compact 4 cylinder unit even though the power output exceeds a 3.9 liter V6. For transmission the car makers have included a new automatic “TCT” twin dry clutch system with eight gears.
Acceleration features of the car as announced by Dodge themselves is 8.1 seconds for the 0 to 60 mph sprint. Fuel consumption rate is 25 mpg in city drives and 32 mpg in highway. Comparing this to the Pentastar which is fitted with the 3.6 liter V6, it gives 18 mpg in city and 27 mpg in highway.
