The next-gen 2015 Land Rover Freelander mule has already been spied earlier and now new details of the same are starting to emerge.

In its report, the Autocar says that the crossover will drop the Freelander name and become part of the Discovery family. The move is reportedly considered to be a part of a decision to create three separate brand identities including Range Rover, Discovery and Defender.

While the replacement for the Discovery / LR4 will ride on the platform of the Range Rover’s PLA, the Freelander replacement will likely be based on an extended version of the Evoque’s LR-MS architecture. The two versions are reportedly in the development stage and they are expected to include a five and seven-seat variant.

In terms of powerhouse, the models will reportedly be powered by a variety of AJ-200 four-cylinder engines including a turbocharged unit. The Freelander replacement model is expected to be launched late next year and most likely as a 2015 model.
