Hurst Performance Vehicles disclosed today that there will be a special-edition Mustang to lead the cars participating at the 2010 Ford Racing Mustang Challenge.

The tuning firm has a long history of providing the racing world with iconic racing series pace cars. A Hurst setup Mustang will debut as the 2010 series of the Ford Racing Challenge kicks off.

The Mustang will sport a 550 horsepower engine that is about 200 hp better than the FR500 Mustangs. It has a peak torque of about 542 pound feet. These figures can be attributed to the FR500S cat-back stainless-steel exhaust and filter from K&N.

The pace car is also fitted with a Hurst configured suspension kit and a braking system that makes use of 14-inch rotors and calipers with 4 pistons from Ford Racing. Hurst also installed a rear deck Air Speed spoiler.

The Mustang pace car will roll on the track with 20-inch forged aluminum rims from Hurst hugged by g-Force tires from BFGoodrich. The car will don the traditional black and gold finish of a Hurst. The inside of the car is emblazoned by Hurst logos ffrom the mats, seats, and other details.
