Mercedes-Benz has disclosed full details regarding the engine which is able to power the future AMG GT.

It seems previous rumors were spot on because the AMG GT can feature a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine delivering 510 ps (375 kW) at rpm,250 rate and a most torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) between 1,750 rate and 4,750 rpm.

Codenamed M178, this euro 6-compliant engine includes a dry weight of 209 kilo (460 lbs) and edges from light-weight pistons and twin overhead camshafts whereas the flow-optimized cylinder heads feature zirconium alloy for optimum temperature and thermal conduction. The cylinder walls are lined with a nano-slide coating so as to diminish friction losses and there is no want for a traditional oil pan because the engineers used a dry sump lubrication technology.

The same engine also will realize its approach below the hood of the future C63 AMG models (sedan, estate, automobile and cabriolet) however we’ll see it 1st on the AMG GT set to be unveiled this fall before happening sale March 2015.
