That Volkswagen wants to take over the legendary Alfa Romeo brand is not a secret. Its something that Volkswagen has reiterated again and again. This in spite of Fiat’s Sergio Marchionne’s declaration about the Italian brand’s unavailability for getting sold. In fact, so keen Volkswagen is to get hold of Alpha Romeo that it is even believed to have set up plans on how to further add value to the Alpha Romeo brand just in case there is a change of opinion of its present owners.
Apparently, Volkswagen would introduce Porsche technology on Alfa Romeo cars, taken from the new entry-level roadster situated under the Boxster.
Imagine how an Alfa Romeo 4C deriving its power from a Porsche engine will sound like. For those who are still unknown, Volkswagen is planning to become world’s largest car manufacturer with intentions of selling more cars than Toyota. And it appears that Alfa Romeo is also a solution to help it achieve this goal by the year 2018.
Still, the Alfa Romeo sale remains a untouchable dream for Volkswagen Group as Fiat has no intention to sell it. In addition, Alfa Romeo says that they ‘shut the door in Vw’s face and now all they are trying to do is to get in the window.’ Moreover, the meeting between VW chairman Ferdinand Piech and CEO Martin Winterkorn regarding a probable Alfa Romeo sales never happened and it is only a myth

But the Porsche motors have been discarded because they are of older technology, weigh too much and in actual fact under perform the Alfa’s home grown motors and technology. This is only a publicity stunt, while the real truth is that Fiats Iveco, trucks are in negotiations to purchase VW truck devision (MAN and part Scania). Remember that Fiat already bought out Fords Tractor devision adding it to the New Holland line it owns. Fiat is a world leader in Trucks, Tractors.
