Previously we saw the “sportback version” of the Audi Urban Concept but the German manufacturer wanted to show us that the prototype was not the only surprise from the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The result is the Audi Urban Concept Spyder – the roofless version of Audi’s radical city car.
Comparing the two models, a huge difference can be spotted especially when talking about the windshield of the car and the retracting side-door windows of the original car. Considering that the convertible shows a low, continuous window area and its doors that open diagonally to the top, we can say that is an airier alternative to the tiny hard-top Audi Urban Concept.
Excpt this, all the other exterior details looks the same, including the carbon fiber-reinforced polymer cockpit, which integrates the undercarriage of both seats and the 21-inch wheels. The Audi Urban Concept uses two e-tron electric motors, while a lithium battery supplies the energy. The only difference is that the tires are traditional black rather than white.
“On board there is room for two people, their position slightly staggered and at a sporty, low level. All controls and materials are subject to the dictates of ultra-lightweight construction in order to ensure that the sensory experience they convey is unique and compelling. The driver can adjust the steering wheel and pedals to his own body measurements. Characteristic features of the Spyder include its low, continuous window area and its doors that open diagonally to the top.” said the press release.
Next month, both variants of the Urban Concept will debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show.
