A man was flown to a local hospital Thursday after his automobile went 80 feet down a cliff in the Marin Headlands, Marin County, California.

The solo car wreck was reported around 11:30 a.m. on Conzelman Road. Rescuers discovered the man in a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan below the roadway near Battery Rathbone-McIndoe.

Emergency workers tried their best ways to get the car that repelled the road.

The car landed upright in bushes, stated Nathan Sargent, a spokesperson with Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Conzelman Road was closed past Hawk Hill Roadway because rescuers with the National Park Service and other agencies reduced themselves to the car using ropes and liberating the man, as per Southern Marin fire authorities. The man was loaded into a basket and raised to safety by a California Highway Patrol helicopter prior being carried to the hospital.

The motorist was alert throughout the rescue, authorities said. He was flown to John Muir Medical Center located in Walnut Creek.

The man was unidentified. His condition was not instantly understood.

The road was resumed at about 1:30 p.m. The reason for the incident was still being investigated.
