Germany’s BMW AG stated on Monday it would invest $600 million in its Spartanburg, South Carolina plant located in the United States, as it aims to strengthen its manufacturing centers for future generations of its BMW X sport utility vehicles.

The investment, that is from 2018 to 2021, will also bring 1,000 jobs at the plant, the company said.

The plant is the company’s biggest around the world and makes the BMW X cars for the United States and worldwide markets.

The Spartanburg plant produced over 411,000 vehicles in last year and presently employs over 9,000 individuals.
