Theresa May says Honda plant closure can’t be blamed on Brexit

British Prime Minister Theresa May stated Honda’s announcement that it would shut down its factory in England in 2021 was deeply disappointing, however could not be blamed on the nation’s upcoming exit from the European Union.

“The decision this week by Honda is one that is deeply disappointing. They have made absolutely clear this is not a Brexit-related decision. This is a decision about the change that is taking to the global car market,” May informed lawmakers.

Honda stated on Tuesday that the move was not associated to Brexit and that it required to focus manufacturing in regions where it anticipates to sell most cars, after having hard time in Europe.

But the announcement about the plant located in Swindon in southern England comes after a range of warnings from Japan that it would pull investments if they are no longer economically important after Britain exits the bloc.
