About 150,000 orders thus far for Tesla Cybertruck, says Elon Musk

Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated on Saturday that there have been about 150,000 orders thus far for the electric automaker’s Cybertruck, which was revealed on Thursday.

“146k Cybertruck orders so far, with 42% choosing dual, 41% tri & 17% single motor”, Musk wrote in a tweet, noting separately that the orders were gained without any advertising or paid endorsements.

The introduction of the Cybertruck pickup suffered some embarrassment when its “armored glass” windows shattered in a much-anticipated unveiling. The whole look of the electric vehicle had worried Wall Street on Friday.

At the launch, the CEO had taken aim at the design, power, and longevity of mainstream trucks, only to be shaken when the windows of Tesla’s new truck shattered while being tested.

Some of those moments overshadowed the introduction, which was live-streamed from Los Angeles and made #cybertruck a trending word on Twitter.

With a starting cost of $39,900, Cybertruck’s angular body in gun-metal gray parallels an armored vehicle. Its website indicates that an immediate payment of $100 would be needed to reserve an order for the Cybertruck.

Tesla plans to begin manufacturing the truck in 2021.

Pickup trucks are one of the most popular vehicle segments across the world. The U.S. truck market is dominated by General Motors, Ford Motor, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
