Ford Motor will require most of its 32,000 U.S. salaried workers to be vaccinated by December 8.

The automaker said on Wednesday over 84% of U.S. salaried employees already are vaccinated. The automaker’s deadline for most salaried workers to get vaccinated against COVID-19 is aligned with the “federal contractor guidelines”.

Ford was still reviewing its policy for “manufacturing locations, parts depots, and Ford Credit, including analyzing federal and collective bargaining requirements”.

“The health and safety of our workforce remain our leading priority and we have been very encouraged by the support of our workers to comply with our protocols, including the more than 84-percent of U.S. salaried workers who are already vaccinated,” Ford said.

“As we continue to put measures in place to protect our team, Ford will now need most U.S. salaried employees to be entirely vaccinated against COVID-19 by December 8, which also aligns to federal contractor guidelines.”

Ford said salaried workers who are not agreeing with the terms and do not get an approved medical or religious exemption could be placed on an unpaid leave of up to 30 days.

About 46,252,513 people in the US have been confirmed as being infected with the coronavirus. The virus has killed 750,423 people in the country.
