2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Debuts with V8 Engine [Photo Gallery]

I’ve written about the S-Class for years, and at this point it takes something genuinely unexpected to make me slow down and read twice. The 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class manages that by doing something few saw coming, especially in this segment: bringing a flat-plane V8 back into the flagship luxury sedan. From what I can tell, Mercedes isn’t trying to reinvent the S-Class here, but rather sharpen what already works while quietly changing the mechanical heart of the car.

Exterior

Visually, the 2027 model from Mercedes-Benz sticks close to the familiar S-Class formula, which, in my opinion, is exactly the point.

Up front stands out with the newly added headlight internals framing a slightly larger grille, while at the back, the new taillights take their inspiration from the latest E-Class, using horizontally oriented units with star-shaped lighting connected by a chrome strip across the trunk.

Interior

What dominates the interior is the new setup called “Superscreen,” where three separate screens make the cabin look futuristic – a driver is facing a 12.3-inch digital cluster and a much larger 14.3-inch touchscreen sitting at the center of the dashboard. A 12.3-inch digital cluster for the rear passengers completes the scenery.

The system runs the latest MBUX software, now supporting generative AI features and native Google Maps. Rear passengers aren’t forgotten either, with two 13.1-inch screens mounted to the front seatbacks and detachable MBUX remotes, plus built-in access to apps like YouTube and Disney+.

Powertrain

Under the hood is where things actually get interesting, and I didn’t expect to say that about an S-Class again.

The three variants of the 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class come with different motorizations, all V8-equipped. Check below the full list:

Price

Pricing hasn’t been announced yet. That said, with the 2026 S-Class starting at $120,850, I wouldn’t expect the 2027 model to come in any lower.

Other Specifications

All versions send power through a nine-speed automatic transmission, with standard Airmatic air suspension across the lineup. E-Active Body Control remains optional.
