Polestar may be navigating financial pressure, but its leadership is clearly thinking about performance rather than retreat. The Geely-owned brand is preparing four new EV launches by 2028, and management is already looking beyond that rollout toward something more ambitious: expanding high-performance BST variants across the lineup without slowing down development in the process.
Speaking at a media gathering at Polestar’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, CEO Michael Lohscheller outlined that direction in unusually direct terms. As reported by Auto Express, he said:

“In terms of how we will continue to deliver performance with our future models, I think we’re going to deliver a more consistent way in terms of performance cars, in terms of the specifications. We want to focus a bit more on performance, because that is where we can do even better going forward, on track, on acceleration, but also in terms of being superior to others.”
The targets are not subtle. Lohscheller believes the brand still has the expertise to take on BMW M, Mercedes-AMG, and Audi RS.
At the center of the strategy is the expansion of the “BST” moniker, short for “Beast.” And now that the Polestar 2 BST Editions appeared to be a successful limited-production test, the company is now eager to transform the name into a high-performance sub-brand, which is a crucial change to make Polestar one of the most significant branches of Volvo.
Even though the information is scanty, future BST candidates are already under consideration. It is also coming with the new-gen Polestar 2 sedan, the newly upgraded Polestar 3 SUV, and the Polestar 4 Coupe Crossover. This involves conducting production of a wider product range of products as opposed to a single halo product.

The Polestar 5 Grand Tourer will be offered, in Performance guise, with enough power to challenge its toughest competitors, like the Audi RS e-Tron GT, Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, and Xiaomi SU7 Ultra. We are dealing here with a massive 872 horsepower, a figure that will definitely position the Polestar 5 way above its competitors.
There are constraints, of course. Only a few months earlier, just before Polestar sold its final R&D center in the UK after receiving a $900 million loan in parent company Geely to cover the massive losses, the engineering facility that was closed had been the one in charge of developing the Polestar 5. Further down the line, the company announced the track-oriented Polestar Concept BST, which is based on the Polestar 6 roadster, but its launch has since been deferred with the focus shifted to focus on more lucrative models in mass markets.
